Purpose of Position/Summary:
The general purpose of this position is to respond to customer tax inquiries by phone in an efficient and effective manner with the highest level of customer focus. Employee works to ensure the highest level of customer focus, with a strong commitment to the taxpayers of Indiana through continuous, innovative methods to increase accuracy, efficiency and productivity in all areas of departmental operations and tax administration.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Customer Service Specialist job duties may include:
-Provides professional assistance to customers by telephone and in person instructing and furnishing information regarding various tax types (sales, withholding, income, food and beverage) administered and collected by the agency
-Interprets and applies tax laws, rules and regulations in identifying and resolving tax problems
-Access specific internal processing system to perform account and financial maintenance related to liabilities, payments and payment arrangements
- Access specific internal processing system to view and explain tax returns and verify and process payments, credits and deductions claimed on various tax returns
- Processes payments for a variety of tax types via electronic processing system
- Processes payments and completes daily funds reconciliation and bank deposit
-Responds to various customer inquiries and performs related duties as assigned
- Prioritizing workflow for customer needs and efficiency. Ability to recognize priorities and adjust when needed.
- Willingness to grow and learn, to work independently after training, and to deliver excellent customer service.
- Position offers personal development opportunities. Future duties could include training and coaching of new hires and facilitating effective functioning of the office when direct supervisor is out of the office.
Job Requirements:
-Ability to provide high level customer service by telephone, in person or in writing
-Ability to communicate professionally using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
-Ability to apply and understand ethics and confidentiality laws
-Ability to discuss and provide resolution to customer inquiries using best in class customer service methods
-Ability to analyze and problem solve using various resources
