Position Title: Data Analyst
Location: Weatogue, CT, 06089
Duration: 08/10/2020 to 02/09/2021

• Local to the CT area
• Remote until after WFH restrictions are uplifted. After that, 4 days/week onsite
• Temp to potential perm

• This is not an IT role. Candidate must have good property/casualty insurance experience and be data savvy.
• Candidate needs to leverage their insurance knowledge to work with business users and understand business requirements for reporting and dashboard builds.
• Experience with policy administration systems required (Submission, Policy/Premium, policy lifecycle).
• Experience with one or more Business Intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Business Objects, Cognos, Crystal, etc.
• SQL experience/proficiency – must be able to build custom queries. There will be no heavy coding or programming just general SQL.
• Insurance Financials experience is a plus
• Compliance/Regulatory reporting is a plus

Job Duties:
Big part of the job is building the business requirements and identifying the appropriate data in the underlying data systems (e.g., submission, policy/booking systems). Candidate will utilize basic tools to build reports (PowerBI, Excel, Access, SQL, etc). However, most reports will be built as a draft and handed off to an offshore/IT team for Production rollout (and maintenance). Candidate should already have a good knowledge of the policy lifecycle from original submission to policy booking and expiration. Candidate needs to leverage that knowledge to understand how to report on the key events that occur during that lifecycle (submit, quote, bind/book, endorse, cancel, expire, etc). Candidate will need to learn/understand how this data is structured and stored in the various systems. Most of the systems are relational databases (SQL Access). Candidate needs to have experience mapping and merging data between different systems. Various reporting tools are utilized at Client including (e.g., business objects, cognos, powerbi, etc). Candidate must be proficient with one or more BI software tools but does not have to be a technical expert. NAS currently utilizes several different Insurance systems, for example: Openco, Openbox, MFX, Guidewire and several custom-built databases and applications. Candidate should have proven experience with learning new Policy systems.

• Utilize your insurance business and system knowledge to provide analytical support to various business partners and project teams across the company.
• Take ownership of data-related requests from beginning to end.
• Work directly with business users to understand and document business requirements.
• Provide solution options to business users.
• Identify data availability across various systems.
• Understand or assess data quality.
• Utilize various BI tools to build interim data sets and/or reports to meet requirements (Excel, MS Access, Power BI, Business Objects, etc).
• Create standard operating procedures for new requirements for handoff to IT and/or offshore support teams. Support teams are responsible for building automated, production-grade reporting solutions in PowerBI and/or other technologies.
• Participate in data visualization/dashboard solutioning efforts.
• Execute standard testing and reconciliation for new or revised reports/dashboards.
• Support external project teams on data-related efforts such as special projects, new system implementations and data migration efforts.
• Share knowledge with other junior team members.

• Property/Casualty insurance knowledge is required. Must have an excellent understanding of insurance policy lifecycle and related reporting metrics.
• Insurance systems knowledge required. Must have an excellent understanding of how systems capture policy data and how that data is structured in the underlying model.
• Ability to own report development effort with minimal to no supervision.
• Must have the ability to bridge the communication gap between business users and technical support resources.
• Must be proficient with SQL as the role requires data querying and adhoc data analysis.
• Experience with data mapping/merging from disparate sources.
• Skilled at data related troubleshooting (e.g., identifying reconciliation variances, determining cause of data anomalies).
• Proven ability to interview users and understand requirements.
Proficiency with reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects, PowerBI, Tableau, Crystal, MS Access, etc).

• 5+ years Property/Casualty insurance data experience required.
• 2+ years SQL
• Insurance Finance, Actuarial or Regulatory experience is a plus.
